Dry Food Collection Drive: Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the purpose of this initiative?
Feeding the poor is one of the best service to the society.
SSSVSS aim is to conduct regular dry food collection drives and send these items to volunteer groups that prepare free meals so that needy families do not go hungry.
We have timed this initiative with Amavasya as this is a special time to seek blessings and guidance from our ancestors, as well as embark on spiritual activities (e.g. self-reflection, meditation, prayer) and volunteering activities (e.g. dry food collection) to uplift ourselves as well as everyone around us.
Currently, the dry food collections are sent by our volunteers to Krsna’s Free Meals (https://www.krsnasfreemeals.org/).
- What dry food items are collected?
Currently, we are only collecting two items, i.e. Raw Rice and Dhal.
- Are there any restrictions?
We only accept unopened, unexpired, dry/packaged food items with at least few weeks’ to expiry.
We do not accept fresh food, opened packages or those with expired dates.
- How much should I contribute?
Any contribution, as per your ability, is welcome. There is no minimum amount.
Every act of giving, no matter how big or small, will make a positive and sustainable supply of dry food that will go towards the free meals for families in need.
